SYNOPSIS
Act I
Scene 1
The Jolly Roger, Captain Hook’s sturdy pirate ship, is
anchored in Neverland Bay. The company (Captain Hook and Peter Pan excepted)
sings of the wonders awaiting the audience “In Neverland.” The Darlings
(Wendy, Michael, and John) and the Lost Boys (Curly, Nibs, Pockets, and
Tootles) are in control of the ship, and Hook’s pirates (One-Eye Jack,
Mister Noodler, Peg-Leg Pete, Mister Starkey, and Reginald Stew) are tied
together as captives. Mister Smee is linked to Hook (sequestered deeper
within the ship).
Scene 2
Hook rages against the terrible “Peter Pan!” and reminisces about the
events which led to his confinement. Smee commiserates.
Scene 3
Flashback to several days earlier, and the pirates are dancing a
hornpipe (“Duddle Dai!”). Smee announces that the captain intends to wash
his hands of Neverland and return to sea, so the pirates prepare to sail (“Yo
Ho, Yo Ho”). Hook appears and declares instead a final plan to capture Peter
Pan. His men hope for success (“Yo Ho, Yo Ho [Reprise]”).
Scene 4
The action returns to the present day and the imprisoned Hook, who
proudly recalls his dastardly plan: Capture the Lost Boys and the Darlings
and lure Peter into a lethal ambush. Hook and Smee remember the plot’s
execution.
Scene 5
Back in the past, Wendy tells stories to the Lost Boys before
bedtime, but then Peter leads the lads in “Calling Names” for Captain Hook.
Wendy sings a lullaby praising mothers (“Once There Was a Mother”) to calm
everyone, and she succeeds until Peter reminds the boys that mothers make
rules and rules are no fun. The Lost Boys declare their love for “The Lost
Boy Life” and wear themselves out in play. Peter leaves as his “family”
settles down for the night. Pirates sneak in and kidnap everyone. Tinkerbell
tells Peter what has happened and he rushes to the rescue.
Scene 6
Captain Hook attempts to recruit the Lost Boys (and the audience)
into piracy (“Yo Ho, Yo Ho [Recruiting Version],” “Yo Ho, Yo Ho [Sing
Along]”) but he fails miserably. Smee sings as the children walk the plank
(“Yo Ho, Yo Ho [Smee’s Reel I and II]”). Peter Pan arrives, frees his
friends, and the pirates are conquered.
Scene 7
Back in the present, Peter Pan is now seen at the wheel of the pirate
ship. Hook laments his defeat and the company sails off in search of new
adventures (“In Neverland” [Finale]).

BEYOND THE STARS IS A NEVERLAND

AND SCHEME TO PLEASE THEIR GREED.
THEIR CAPTAIN IS FOUL CAPTAIN HOOK,
THAT MASTER OF MISDEEDS.
BUT THE PIRATES HAVE BEEN CAPTURED,
AND THEY MOLDER IN A HOLD.
“OH, UNLUCKY ME!” CRIES MISTER SMEE, . . .
BUT WHY SHOULD THIS BE SO?
TO FIND OUT YOU SHOULD GO TO . . .
NEVERLAND, FULL OF MYSTERIES
MEANT TO PUZZLE TILL THE LAST.
EV’RY FAIRY RINGS LIKE A BELL WITH WINGS
WHEN A BABY GIVES A LAUGH.
NEVER FORGET IT. NEVER DISMISS IT.
NEVER SAY IT DOESN’T EXIST.
NEVER IMPLY THAT IT’S JUST A LIE.
THERE’S NO REASON FOR YOU TO RESIST.
IT’S THE LAND WE SEE WHEN WE ARE YOUNG
AND THE HOPES WE HAVE ARE JUST BEGUN.
SO CLOSE YOUR EYES. PREPARE TO FLY,
AND COME ALONG TO NEVER-
(WHERE YOU’RE YOUNG FOREVER)
WONDERFUL NEVERLAND.
"YO HO, YO HO"
YO HO. YO HO. PIRATING WE GO,
AND IF WE’RE PARTED BY A SHOT
WE’RE SURE TO MEET BELOW.
YO HO. YO HO. FLAG O’ SKULL AND BONES.
A MERRY HOUR, A HEMPEN ROPE,
AND “HELLO, DAVY JONES!”
YO HO. YO HO. WALK ALONG THE PLANK
TILL IT DIPS DOWN AND YOU GO DOWN
AND PLUNGE INTO THE DRINK.
YO HO. YO HO. SEE THE ANCHOR WEIGHED.
WE’LL HOIST THE SAILS AND MAN THE RIG
AND RIDE THE COURSE WE’VE LAID.
SHIVER ME TIMBERS ON THE SEAS.
LIVE THE LIFE OF EASE.
SHIVER ME TIMBERS THROUGH THE GALES.
DEAD MEN TALE NO TALES.
YO HO. YO HO. FLY THE PIRATE FLAG.
WE’LL ALL HOLD COURSE THROUGH THICK AND THIN
BECAUSE WE’RE GOOD AND BAD.
YO HO. YO HO. DON’T BE OVERTOOK.
YOU’LL FIND THERE’S NOTHING ON YOUR BONES
ONCE YOU’VE SHOOK HANDS WITH HOOK.
SHIVER ME TIMBERS ON THE SEAS.
LIVE THE LIFE OF EASE.
SHIVER ME TIMBERS THROUGH THE GALES.
DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

SCENE SAMPLE
Act I, Scene 4
(TINKERBELL chimes as the ship opens up once more. Lights come up on CAPTAIN
HOOK and MISTER SMEE, still bound.)
MISTER SMEE
Well, Cap’n, I remember it, too, and you can’t blame the men. They were a
bit confused. First they’re sailing, then they’re docking. They didn’t know
whether they were coming or going.
CAPTAIN HOOK
I knew what I was doing, Mister Smee. Capture Wendy and those sniveling
brats, and Peter Pan was as good as caught himself! Don’t tell me I’m not a
genius, Smee. Don’t tell me. (Pause, through clenched teeth.) Tell me. Smee,
tell me I’m a genius!
MISTER SMEE
Oh, you’re a genius, Cap’n.
CAPTAIN HOOK
Good form, Mister Smee. ‘Twas all right there on me map: the secret hideout
of Peter and his gang.
MISTER SMEE
If you don’t mind me asking, how did you find the way to their hideout?
CAPTAIN HOOK
It took me months to find it. You know how? You’ll never guess. Try and
guess. Just try. (MISTER SMEE ad-libs a guess.) No. Wrong. It was that
flying speck of a thing he calls Tinkerbell. She led me straight to him, and
I made meself this map. I just followed her light. (TINKERBELL appears,
crosses the stage, and exits.) I followed her straight to Peter Pan’s
hideout. Then I sent you and me men to get them brats. Remember, Smee?
MISTER SMEE
Aye, Cap’n. I do.
(SMEE scratches his head and looks into the past. Blackout.)
